how much parents protect you

I am going to winter jam this saturday with my friend and than sleeping over at his house. They go to our church and his dad helps with the youth program(renamed ducttape mofia). So i'm all excited and my mom says I don't know his family well. So she continues to go online and search his dad on google to be sure he doesn't have any police records. So that my friends is how protective a parent can be.
